Zero Waste – Kunst und Wissen Green Energy: consumption, justice and access (in engl. Sprache)

Dr. Grace Mbungu, Dr. Natalia Realpe Carrillo, Moderation: Lena Johanna Reisner

After a short screening of a video documentation, we will speak about the performative installation “Charging Tesla Crash, A Speculation”, a collaboration by Jean Katambayi, Sammy Baloji, Daddy Tshikaya, and Marjolijn Dijkman. The work returns to Nikola Tesla‘s utopian ideas about making wireless energy accessible to everyone around the globe. In the discussion, we will reflect on the sustainability aspects of energy transition paths and on today’s global inequalities. Grace Mbungu, Head of Climate Change Program at APRI, will speak about the politics and governance of the global energy transition, opportunities for renewable energy development, and gender justice. Together with Natalia Realpe Carrillo a specialist in green inclusive finance, we will discuss the role of digitisation to ensure energy justice and access to energy in rural areas. Dr. Grace Mbungu is Head of Climate Change Program at the Africa Policy Research Institute (APRI) in Berlin, and an expert in the social dynamics and dimensions of energy transitions and climate action in Africa. Dr. Natalia Realpe Carrillo is a specialist in green inclusive finance, fostering financial and energy inclusion. She is CEO of HEDERA and was a Klaus Töpfer Sustainability 2021 Fellow at IASS Potsdam. Guest host: Lena Johanna Reisner is a curator and writer. Her most recent exhibition, “Fossil Experience”, focused on questions of energy production and the use of fossil fuels. Curators: Hannah Beck-Mannagetta and Lena Fließbach
